NCCC Opens Team Nepal Selection for 7 Nations Cup

Toronto: The Nepali Canadian Cricket Club (NCCC) has opened selection for 'Team Nepal' ahead of the upcoming 7 Nations Cup, inviting Nepali cricketers from across Canada to try out.

The tournament—featuring teams from Nepal, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Canada, and India—will take place from October 10–11, 2026, in Montreal, Quebec. Players residing in any Canadian city or province are eligible to apply through an online selection form. According to the NCCC, the tournament offers a platform for Nepali players across the country to unite, compete, and proudly represent Nepal on a national stage.

Nepali cricket has grown steadily across Canada in recent years, with clubs and community organizations organizing leagues, tournaments, and training programs to develop talent within the diaspora. Montreal itself boasts a rich cricket heritage: organized matches were recorded in the city as early as the 1840s, with historical trophies dating back to the early 1900s.

Organizers describe the 7 Nations Cup as a celebration of diversity that promotes friendship, harmony, and tolerance among multicultural communities.

"This is more than just a cricket tournament," said NCCC President Binay Yadav. "It is an opportunity for Nepali cricketers to come together, compete, connect, and proudly wear the Nepal jersey."

The annual event, organized by Cricket Quebec, brings communities together but continues to face funding constraints, relying heavily on volunteer efforts while players balance training with full-time careers.

Yadav will lead the Team Nepal campaign alongside NCCC Patron Imran Asgar. In Montreal, Nimesh Gautam and Gopal Sunar will manage the squad while also serving as active players.
